About Our Pastor

Charles Wayne Thompson  was born the fourth child and only son   to Mr. Samuel and Mrs. Annie Thompson of Hueytown, Alabama.   He confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at the New  Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church.

After being educated in the Hueytown schools, he received a   scholarship to attend Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama. After one  year of college, Charles decided to enlist in the United States Navy  for a period of 3 years. He was united in Holy Matrimony with   Petra Gail Jackson in December, 1977. To this union they were   blessed with one daughter Alisha and one son Charles Wayne, Jr.

Charles later served on the Usher Board, Choir and was ordained a   deacon of New Mount Moriah Baptist Church in 1987. He then continued his education at Faulkner University and Lawson State Community College where he received an Associate Degree in  Consumer Electronics. But this was not enough. He realized this   was not his true calling. He accepted his calling and was ordained   to the ministry on March 4, 1990. He then entered the Birmingham  Baptist Easonian Bible College in Birmingham, Alabama where he   received a Bible Certificate (1992), Bible Diploma (1994) and in   1995, he with the aid of the Holy Spirit received the Bachelor of   Arts Degree in the Pastor's Program.   He also received a Bachelor of Arts in Theology.

While pursuing his education and employed with Alabama Power Company, he became Pastor of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist  Church, Brierfield, Alabama. There he served faithfully for six and a half years. While serving in the Bibb County area, he   had other responsibilities. He served as president of the Shelby/Bibb Fellowship, Vice Moderator of the Lillie Star District   Association, Chairman of the Lillie Star Scholarship Fund and the position of Dean of the Lillie Star District Association. Hepursued a Master's Degree with Andersonville Baptist Seminary in Camille, Georgia.

Charles was called as pastor to the First Missionary Baptist Church, January 3, 1998 and started his journey with us on January   11 of that same year. He has led us on a prolific ride. Many souls have accepted Christ thru his preaching of the gospel. He has encouraged the hearts of many during sickness, bereavement and other troublesome times. To add to the list of   accomplishments, he followed the vision to build a new edifice where we are presently worshipping.  God has blessed incalculably!!!

We are "thankful" and looking forward to many days of production by his leadership as he continues to follow Christ.  To God Be the Glory!
